"Wrong Turn"

I finished my submission for Spectrum.  I had an awesome time designing goblins (and the two kids).  I enjoyed working in a more animated style; up next, I got some new fantasy pieces in the works.

Goblin Heads

I'm making a goblin-themed painting for my upcoming "Spectrum" submission.  I sat down with my Pilot Pen and threw down some quick goblin heads (I added a little color in PS later on).  I've worked on a lot of projects lately that are very careful and slow, I love times like this where I can experiment with shapes and marks.

Rooster

Back when I was still in Austin, I visited a chicken farm that belonged to one of my painting students.  I took a lot of great reference shots, but I haven't had the time to sit down and do some work from them.  I did a little chicken watercolor a few weeks back in my sketchbook, but I sat down and made a more in-depth study of this rooster.  I kept the left side very open and "process"-ee, I've always loved seeing that in oil paintings/studies.

Dog commission

Back when I was in Austin, I painted quite a few dogs at work and for commissions.  Since moving out to Oakland, I haven't had the opportunity to paint any.  A buddy of mine (still back in Austin) commissioned me to paint his dog.  It's nice to take a break from digital painting to do something traditional.  I like spending most of my time painting with a 1.5" flat, only dropping down for the smaller details (eye, nose, etc.)

More of my dogs can be found at PrismaticPet.com

Face Sketches

Sketching on the BART and around San Francisco; feels good to do some traditional sketching again–

Sketch - watercolor chicken

I visited a chicken farm a while back and did a few sketches/took some photos.  I finally had the chance to sit down and make a more developed, colored sketch.  It was nice to do something traditional as a break from all the digital stuff.
